Understanding Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine

A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is a fully licensed physician who practices across all medical specialties, from primary care to highly specialized surgical fields.

Like MDs, DOs attend four years of medical school, complete residency training, may pursue fellowships, and are licensed to prescribe medications, perform surgery, and practice medicine in all 50 U.S. states and worldwide.

What makes osteopathic medicine distinct is not a limitation in scope, but an expanded philosophy of care.
